Its distinctive architecture and the colorful fate of the first owner of the estate, the Dutch royal Marianna Oranska, make this place simply a must see while in the Kłodzko Valley. Discover its secrets with us now!

Where did the name Marianna Oranska's palace come from?

Although castles and palaces of the Kłodzko Basin are usually associated with certain families, the palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki stands out strongly in this respect. Also known as Marianna Oranska's palace, it is associated almost exclusively with her person, despite the fact that already in 1873, a year after the construction, she passed it on to her son Albrecht, born during her marriage to Albrecht Hohenzollern, Prince of Prussia.

The Palace of Marianna Orańska in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki was in the hands of the Hohenzollern family until 1945. The last owner of the property was Waldemar Hohenzollern, who left the residence for good. However, already during World War II, a transitional warehouse was installed there for works of art looted by the Nazis. In the first post-war years, the entire property was vandalized and set on fire. Earlier, however, some of its interiors were dismantled and the marble obtained in this way was used to build the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.

Who was Marianna Oranska?

Marianna Orańska, the first owner and initiator of the construction of the palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, was born in 1810 as a princess of the Netherlands and daughter of King Wilhelm I of the Netherlands. At the age of 20, she married her cousin Albrecht, the youngest son of King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia. This marriage was not successful, and the numerous betrayals and difficult nature of her husband made her leave him after 15 years, leaving him children whom she could not take with her. She went to live with her lover, the masztalerer Johannes van Rossum in the Netherlands. This too, coupled with her later pregnancy, led to her divorce from her husband and infamii. Deprived of her reverence and good name, Marianna could not contact her children and stay in Prussia for more than one day. She died in Reinhartshausen in 1883. She was buried next to her lover.

Although in her time Marianna Oranska was considered a scandalist, today she is rather remembered through the prism of her social and economic initiatives, as evidenced by her name mentioned together with the Kamieniec Palace. Thanks to it, among other things, a network of roads was created, which allowed the development of the surrounding villages, as well as various industrial and production plants as well as livestock farms were established.
